Who's Got Spirit?

Here's an at-home bible study to do with your household or friends.

We believe in the 3-in-1 God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Most people have a picture of the Father and the Son, but what’s the Holy Spirit?

1. What do you believe about spirits or souls in general? How is your spirit or soul like you or different from you?

2. Recite the third part of the Apostles’ Creed, “I believe in the Holy Spirit…” In what things does the creed say we’ll find the Spirit?

3. Read John 3:5-8 and 1 Corinthians 15:45-49. What do you think it means to have the Holy Spirit?

4. Read Matthew 12:18 and Isaiah 11:2. What did it mean for Jesus to have the Spirit?

5. Read 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 and Galatians 5:22-25. What have you received from the Holy Spirit?

6. Read 1 Corinthians 12:12-13 and Ephesians 4:1-6. What does having the Spirit change how you live?

Various verses refer to the Spirit as “God’s Spirit” or “Jesus’ Spirit”. Maybe the idea of soulmates will help you understand. God the Father and Jesus the Son share one soul, the Holy Spirit. They are the true soulmates. And Jesus promises to make us part of that one soul. That’s the work of the Holy Spirit, the power shaping us into soulmates with the divine.
